The game is part of the Fire Emblem series, and is the second title in the series to be released on the 3DS. In Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, players take control of a customizable protagonist, who is the prince/princess of the kingdom of Hoshido. The game follows the protagonist's journey as they are forced to choose between their homeland and the kingdom of Nohr. The game features a variety of strategic combat scenarios, as well as a deep story line with multiple endings. Players will also be able to customize their character with a variety of weapons and skills.
